Gdańsk’s Nightlife Just Got a Serious Upgrade

Some places serve cocktails. Others throw parties. BAL na Wyspie does both — and apparently hasn’t received the memo about going home early.

Right in the heart of Gdańsk’s buzzing Wyspa Spichrzów, at Chmielna 112, BAL is bringing a serious dose of glamour, energy and unapologetic good times to the city’s nightlife scene.

Officially opening its doors on 19 September 2026, BAL had already been making noise months earlier, hosting underground-style parties in its still-unfinished premises. From partying among the building works to one of the city’s most exciting new nightlife addresses — that’s quite the glow-up.

And this isn’t your average bar where the highlight of the evening is finding a free table. BAL is a two-level nightlife playground where stylish interiors, expertly mixed cocktails and DJs come together to create the kind of atmosphere that makes just one drink the biggest lie of the weekend.

Start downstairs with a cocktail and a little sophistication. Head upstairs when the music kicks in and suddenly your carefully planned quiet evening has disappeared faster than your phone battery at 3 AM.

VIP tables? Absolutely. Private parties? Of course. Even yacht cruises along the Motława? Because apparently arriving at a nightclub by taxi is just too ordinary.

BAL has that international party-destination energy, the kind you’d expect somewhere between Marbella and Ibiza, except you don’t need a plane ticket. Just make your way to Gdańsk.

The verdict? BAL na Wyspie isn’t simply another address on the nightlife map. It’s making a strong case for becoming one of Gdańsk’s hottest nights out.

And if you wake up the next morning promising yourself you’ll never go out again, congratulations. You probably had a brilliant night.

  • Gdańsk Wins Nightlife Battle. Gdynia Loses, Sopot Laughs.

Gdańsk Wins Nightlife Battle. Gdynia Loses, Sopot Laughs.

122 people voted in our latest City Court poll, and Gdańsk has absolutely battered Gdynia.

    The Results

    • Gdańsk. Obviously: 72.7%
    • Gdynia. No Contest: 27.3%
    • Sopot Is Laughing: 0%

The Verdict: Gdańsk Wins. Gdynia Wants a Rematch.

    Well, that was awkward.

We asked who has the better nightlife, Gdańsk or Gdynia, and nearly three out of four voters picked Gdańsk.

    Ouch.

To be fair, Gdańsk has plenty going on after dark. From the bars around Piwna and Długa to the madness of Stocznia, there’s usually somewhere to go, someone to meet and a questionable decision waiting to happen.

Gdynia put up a fight, grabbing just over 27% of the votes. Respect to the loyal locals who still believe Świętojańska and the surrounding streets can deliver a proper night out.

    And then there’s Sopot.

    Zero votes.

Not because nobody likes Sopot, but because apparently nobody felt like giving the city famous for partying a reason to get involved.

It’s probably too busy recovering from last weekend anyway.

Of course, this was just a fun online poll, not some official nightlife championship. But 122 people had their say, and the result wasn’t exactly close.

The final verdict? Gdańsk takes the nightlife crown, Gdynia gets a participation medal, and Sopot is still wondering why it wasn’t invited to the party.

    Case closed.

Now, who’s buying the next round?

  • Gdynia: Boring or Brilliant? Our Court Poll Shows It’s a Tale of Two Evenings

Gdynia: Boring or Brilliant? Our Court Poll Shows It’s a Tale of Two Evenings

The Verdict: Gdynia Isn’t Boring. It Just Doesn’t Try as Hard as Sopot.

Gdynia has had its day in City Court, and the verdict is in.

Almost half the voters reckon Gdynia is underrated. Another 31% think it’s fine until 10 pm. And roughly one in five admit they find it a little boring.

Fair enough. Not every city needs to be everyone’s cup of tea.

Spend an afternoon around Świętojańska, grab a coffee, wander down to Skwer Kościuszki or walk along the Bulwar, and it’s easy to understand why locals love the place.

But let’s talk about Saturday night.

While Sopot is filling up with people looking for trouble and Gdańsk is deciding which bar to hit next, Gdynia can feel like someone’s already called last orders.

Then again, ask a proper Gdynia local whether they’d swap their city for Sopot, and you’ll probably get laughed out of the room.

Maybe that’s the whole point. Gdynia has never been desperate to impress anyone.

The final verdict? Gdynia is officially underrated, occasionally sleepy and completely unapologetic about it.

Case closed. Now somebody find us a bar that’s still open.

  • SPOT Cocktail Bar Sopot: Strong Drinks, Loose Lips & Bad Decisions

SPOT Cocktail Bar Sopot: Strong Drinks, Loose Lips & Bad Decisions

Sopot after dark. A few drinks, questionable decisions and stories nobody wants repeated the next morning. Tucked away from the usual tourist madness is SPOT, a cocktail bar run by Michał, a former club promoter and barber who’s heard enough drunken confessions to write a bestseller. We tracked him down to talk cocktails, Sopot nightlife, customers behaving badly and why owning a bar means you’re basically at a party every night. Unfortunately, you’re also the one cleaning up afterwards.

SPOT is hidden away in Sopot. Genius, marketing or pure accident?

Pure accident! But maybe that’s what makes it special. Finding us isn’t easy, but once you do, you’ll remember the way back.

How did you end up owning a cocktail bar?

I started as a club promoter. Terrible fit! Then I worked my way behind the bar and fell in love with bartending. When the chance to open SPOT came along, I grabbed it.

Has Sopot nightlife lost its soul?

It’s changed enormously in my nine years here. But there’s still an alternative to the tourist madness. That’s us! Fair prices, a great crew, karaoke and darts coming soon.

Come on, what’s the wildest thing you’ve witnessed?

Hundreds of stories. Unfortunately, what happens at SPOT stays at SPOT. Sorry!

    Are bartenders really unpaid psychologists?

Absolutely! You need serious mental resilience. Some confessions are so outrageous I wish people had kept them to themselves.

What’s with the retro, slightly underground décor?

I grew up in the countryside loving nature. I made or modified much of the interior myself, with help from friends. There’s a lot of me in these walls.

    Who’s the biggest nightmare customer?

    Honestly, anyone can cause trouble

    once alcohol gets involved!

Three drinks we absolutely must try?

Our signature Kiwi Star and Pineapple Kiss. And a classic Long Island Iced Tea. Two of those and your evening is definitely underway!

    Have cocktails become ridiculously pretentious?

I’ve always believed beauty lies in simplicity. Give me a modest, clever garnish over a ridiculous fruit salad balanced on a glass.

    What changes between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m.?

Alcohol can completely transform people. But I think everyone already knows that!

Do you still enjoy partying on your nights off?

I used to be the first at the bar! Now I own one, my life has changed completely. Free time means improving SPOT or fixing whatever broke over the weekend. I’m already at a party every night!

    What’s guaranteed to annoy you?

Guests bringing their own alcohol. Seriously? It’s disrespectful. You wouldn’t bring your own steak to a restaurant.

    One rule for Sopot nightlife?

Have fun together without unnecessary fights. Enjoy yourselves, behave like civilised human beings. Simple!

And what’s the secret behind Michał?

Determination and stubbornness. Once I decide to do something, I don’t give up easily. That’s probably why SPOT exists. I never imagined I’d end up running my own place, but here we are. Sometimes the best decisions are the ones you don’t overthink.

Michał has spent nine years watching Sopot after dark, and somehow he’s still smiling. Behind the cocktails, cheeky stories and occasional drunken idiot is a bloke who’s built his own little corner of the city’s nightlife. We left with one burning question: what exactly has he witnessed behind that bar? He wouldn’t tell us. Which probably means half of Sopot should be very, very grateful.
