  • Gdańsk’s Dumbest Robbers Award Goes To… Two Men Armed With White Socks!

Gdańsk’s Dumbest Robbers Award Goes To… Two Men Armed With White Socks!

Forget Ocean’s Eleven. Gdańsk has Ocean’s Two — and apparently, gloves were beyond the budget.

Two suspected burglars in Gdańsk have delivered what might be the most ridiculous crime story of the month.

Their master plan? Break into a liquor store wearing masks and white socks over their hands instead of gloves.

On October 18, the pair allegedly entered a shop on Grobla Street using a matching key, stole cash, cigarettes and alcohol worth nearly 6,000 PLN, and politely locked the door behind them.

    Very professional.

Except they forgot one tiny detail.

The CCTV cameras were watching everything.

Police identified the suspects using surveillance footage and other evidence. On October 22, officers arrested the first man, aged 37, during an intervention involving another alleged shop theft.

Because apparently one criminal investigation wasn’t enough.

His 30-year-old suspected partner was arrested the following day.

And the plot thickened. Investigators also linked the pair to an alleged theft of more than 1,600 PLN worth of drugstore products in Gdynia.

Both men face burglary charges. As repeat offenders, they could receive prison sentences of up to 15 years if convicted.

    The 3City Daily Verdict

White socks. Working CCTV. Getting caught during another alleged theft.

    Gentlemen, congratulations.

You’ve officially been nominated for the 2026 Gdańsk Criminal Genius Awards.

First prize? Potentially 15 years of free accommodation.

Unfortunately, the dress code probably doesn’t include white socks over your hands.

  • Two Lawyers, One Fashion Obsession: POP Concept Store Gdańsk

Two Lawyers, One Fashion Obsession: POP Concept Store Gdańsk

Two lawyers, two best friends and one shared obsession with fashion. Meet the Martas behind POP concept store in Gdańsk, bringing independent Polish designers together under one roof

Two lawyers, one boutique. Did you ever see this coming?

MJ: We met studying law in Toruń. Fashion was always my passion, but never my career plan. MM: We actually talked about becoming wedding planners. POP wasn’t even on the radar!

What made you abandon your legal careers?

MM: After our second children, we realised we could return to comfortable jobs take a risk. MJ: We decided to create the kind of store we’d love to shop in ourselves — a place dedicated to Polish brands, so we wouldn’t have to travel to Warsaw or rely on online shopping. That’s how POP was born.

    Who’s the bigger control freak?

MJ: Probably a tie! MM: We each have our moments, but we balance each other out.

Three pieces readers should check out?

MJ & MM: Undress Code bodysuits for versatility, Lebrand bandanas for effortless personality and MAAR jewellery for original, statement-making designs.

What earns a Polish brand space at POP?

MM: Quality, distinctive design and responsible production. MJ: We disagree about individual pieces, never our values.

Why visit POP when everything’s online?

MJ: You can touch fabrics, try things on and discover carefully selected Polish designers without endless scrolling. MM: And shopping should be social, welcoming and personal.

How do you stop business arguments ruining your friendship?

MJ: We know disagreements aren’t personal. We’re working towards the same goal. MM: Some of our best ideas come from arguments. Even choosing display-table colours can become ridiculous!

Two Martas, two strong personalities. What drives you absolutely crazy about each other?

MJ: Marta M is such a perfectionist that sometimes she struggles to delegate. And I wish she’d just tell me what’s on her mind instead of expecting me to guess! MM: Marta J likes things done her way. I’ll arrange a display, she’ll change it, and we’ll rearrange everything for days! But her attention to detail has saved us more than once.

And will you still be friends tomorrow?

MM: We might someday stop running a business together. But stop being friends? Absolutely not an option.

Two Martas, two strong personalities and one shared love of fashion. They’ve survived career changes, business headaches and countless arguments over shop displays. And somehow, they’re still best friends. Turns out, the only thing these former lawyers can’t settle is who’s the bigger control freak. Case closed.

  • Klamoty Vintage Gdańsk: She Was Ashamed of Second-Hand Clothes. Now She’s the Queen of Them.

Klamoty Vintage Gdańsk: She Was Ashamed of Second-Hand Clothes. Now She’s the Queen of Them.

Imagine being embarrassed to shop second-hand, then spending the next decade making a living out of other people’s clothes. That’s Justyna Jezierska-Sałasińska for you. Ten years into running Klamoty Vintage in Gdańsk, she’s swapped fashion insecurities for designer treasures, developed a serious weakness for silk scarves and declared war on polyester and people who blindly follow trends. We caught up with Justyna to talk Parisian style, hidden gems and why yesterday’s clothes might just make today’s fashion look a little ridiculous.

Justyna: The Queen Of Other Peoples Clothes

From makeup artist to vintage shop owner. What happened?

Makeup was just a stepping stone. I’ve always loved experimenting with fashion and dreamed of creating somewhere like Klamoty since my teens.

You once felt embarrassed shopping second-hand. What changed?

I discovered the quality, history and character of vintage clothing. Giving beautiful pieces another life became something to celebrate.

Ten years of Klamoty. Your toughest and proudest moments?

COVID, the war in Ukraine and countless challenges tested us. But seeing customers return year after year makes everything worthwhile.

What did Paris teach you about style?

Forget trends. Invest in timeless quality, beautiful fabrics and great cuts. Clothes should last years, not weeks.

    Your greatest vintage treasures?

Old handbags and silk scarves are my weakness! I’ve kept Balenciaga and Miu Miu bags and a Louis Vuitton scarf. Some treasures are impossible to surrender.

    Has vintage become too expensive?

Exceptional pieces cost more now, but affordable treasures still exist. The thrill is finding them!

What earns a place in Klamoty?

Quality, individuality and history. Mass-produced, poorly made clothing doesn’t stand a chance.

    Gdańsk’s biggest fashion crime?

Blindly following trends! I’d happily banish excessive logos and polyester fast fashion. Style is about personality, not labels.

How would you convert a vintage sceptic?

Great-quality jeans and a cashmere sweater. Sometimes the simplest pieces make the strongest argument.

What’s your most embarrassing wardrobe secret?

Nothing! My wardrobe is small and carefully curated. I’ve learned my style and stopped collecting unnecessary things. Sorry, no skeletons in this closet!

  • NICPOŃ Gdańsk: Good Coffee, Bad Behaviour, Zero Snobbery

NICPOŃ Gdańsk: Good Coffee, Bad Behaviour, Zero Snobbery

He barely drank coffee. Now he’s running NICPOŃ in Gdańsk’s Letnica, breaking coffee rules and proving that a little trouble can taste pretty damn good.

    Before NICPOŃ, who was Maciej?

I started in hospitality in 2017. A friend persuaded me to try specialty coffee. Ironically, I barely drank coffee and couldn’t distinguish a cappuccino from a flat white! A year later, I was head barista.

What pushed you to open your own place?

My girlfriend encouraged me enormously. She still helps with paperwork and the café. The reality check? Great coffee doesn’t automatically pay the bills!

    Why choose Letnica?

I wanted specialty coffee outside Gdańsk’s obvious hotspots. Somewhere neighbours could enjoy great coffee without travelling downtown.

NICPOŃ means troublemaker. Are you one?

A little! I like doing things differently. We wanted a playful name that makes people smile.

What annoys you about coffee culture?

Snobbery! Drink whatever makes you happy. Espresso, sweet latte, caramel syrup. There’s no correct way to enjoy coffee.

    Your autumn menu favourite?

Banana Bread Latte! I created it because I love warm banana bread. Our Maple Orange Latte combines maple syrup, orange, cardamom and smoked salt.

A beginner, flat-white addict and coffee geek walk in. What are you serving?

A pour-over for the beginner, a flat white for the addict, and experimental Vietnamese coffee macerated with lavender for the geek.

    Strangest coffee you’ve tasted?

That Vietnamese coffee! Blueberries, cinnamon bun and lavender. Incredible. Specialty instant coffee, though? Maybe we’ve taken convenience too far.

What’s the reality behind running NICPOŃ?

Invoices, repairs, endless responsibilities and very few days off. It’s mentally exhausting. But regulars remembering me, smiling and sharing my latte art make everything worthwhile.

What’s the most outrageous thing you’ve ever done?

As a child, I wandered off in Toruń and disappeared! Police got involved. Teenagers eventually helped reunite me with my family. My crying grandmother rewarded them with ice-cream money. She still reminds me about it!

Maciej takes his coffee seriously, but thankfully not himself. At NICPOŃ, there’s room for coffee geeks, caramel syrup lovers and everyone in between. He’s building something personal in Letnica, one cup and one familiar face at a time. And considering he once had the police searching for him as a runaway kid in Toruń, perhaps the name was always meant to be. Once a little troublemaker, always a Nicpoń. At least now everyone knows where to find him.

  • Detroit Pizza Gdańsk: Inside the 3City Daily Story

Detroit Pizza Gdańsk: Inside the 3City Daily Story

Forget white tablecloths, fancy speeches and people telling you how pizza should be eaten. At Banda Pizza in Gdańsk, it’s all about good dough, big flavours and doing things their own way. We get behind the scenes to discover what makes this pizza-loving crew tick, why great pizza is never quite as simple as it looks and how a little attitude can make all the difference.

KAROL, WHY DETROIT PIZZA IN GDAŃSK?

We were bored of seeing Neapolitan pizza everywhere. Detroit-style looked completely different, and in 2025 there was only one place serving it in Poland. We wanted to bring something fresh.

SO WHAT DOES BANDA ACTUALLY MEAN?

A gang of friends. We’ve always had lots of people around us, so we wanted somewhere everyone could meet, eat and hang out.

KAROL, DID EMINEM REALLY SEND YOU TO DETROIT?

Pretty much! I’ve loved Detroit since I was a kid, probably because of Eminem. I travelled there to learn how the real pizza is made. I also visited Chicago, where Robert Maleski from Milly’s Pizza in the Pan taught me so much. I came home and changed almost everything about our recipes.

    WHY MOVE TO SZEROKA?

Our first place was tiny and takeaway- only. We needed a bigger kitchen and somewhere people could sit, grab a drink and enjoy the whole American atmosphere.

YOU’RE MARRIED AND RUN A PIZZERIA. RECIPE FOR ROMANCE OR MURDER?

Definitely murder! Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Ania has a full-time job, so I’m practically living at the pizzeria. But she’s always involved in ideas, events and planning.

WHAT SHOULD A DETROIT PIZZA VIRGIN ORDER?

Our classic Detroit. Pepperoni, a little spice and sweetness from hot honey. And those crispy, caramelised cheese edges! They’re the best part, especially with our homemade sauces.

HOW MUCH OF DETROIT IS ACTUALLY INSIDE BANDA?

A lot! Detroit loves cars, sport and music, and we’ve brought that atmosphere here. I still miss the city’s Art Deco architecture and the Riverwalk, where you can look across to Canada.

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR MOST SURREAL PIZZA MOMENT?

The President of Poland visiting us in August! That was crazy. We were honoured he chose to try our pizza.

DO YOU EVER STOP TALKING ABOUT PIZZA AT HOME?

We try! Sometimes we escape Gdańsk with the kids and make a rule not to check the restaurant. Luckily, we have a great team. Then we can talk about our next trip and, most importantly, our children.

FINAL QUESTION. WHAT DOES YOUR PARTNER DO THAT DRIVES YOU ABSOLUTELY CRAZY?

Karol: Ania makes plans for us without checking when I’m working. Then we have to cancel everything! Ania: He leaves the kitchen looking like a disaster. But his cooking is so delicious, I usually forgive him.
