A new EU anti-money-laundering framework is set to bring tighter checks to certain high-value transactions from 10 July 2027. The aim is to make it harder to move illicit funds through luxury purchases.

The changes focus on specified high-risk goods and sectors rather than everyday shopping. Super Express highlights thresholds such as €10,000 for jewellery or expensive watches and €250,000 for some motor vehicles. Identity verification may include personal identifying details, potentially a PESEL number in Poland where applicable.

This does not mean shoppers will need to give their PESEL when buying groceries, ordinary clothes or coffee. The exact obligations depend on the transaction and the businesses covered by the regulation.
